Each grapheme is presented next to an image representing an object, animal, or plant whose name begins with the sound. At the end of the book, the child enjoys browsing illustrated pages that will allow them to name what they see and to progress in their knowledge of their environment. This book incorporates the sensory materials designed by Maria Montessori: sandpaper letters and sandpaper graphemes. By tracing them with their fingertips, the child uses their sensory abilities to perceive and memorize with pleasure and gentleness the shape and sound corresponding to each letter and each grapheme.
